NYU Stern 2026-2027 Tech MBA Standardized Test Optional FAQS

Does the test optional policy apply to the Full-time Two-year MBA or Luxury and Retail MBA programs?
Only candidates to the May 2027 Andre Koo Tech and Entrepreneurship MBA program can apply under our test optional policy.

Can I still submit a test score with my application?

In many cases, a standardized test score can help the Admissions Committee assess an applicant’s academic readiness for an MBA program.  Applicants with a test score who believe it would help their candidacy are strongly encouraged to submit their test score.

Will I be at a disadvantage if I apply without a test score?

No. Applicants who apply without a test score will not be at a disadvantage. Although test scores do provide an additional data point, we feel confident that we will be able to assess your candidacy with the application materials.

What if I applied for a prior deadline with a test score?
To be fair and equitable to all candidates, the Admissions Committee will review all prior applicants under the test optional policy, including those who have already received a decision.

Will I be eligible for scholarships?

All admitted students are considered for merit-based scholarships including those who apply without a test score.  Applicants are evaluated for admission and scholarships based on a review of the entire application in which a standardized test score provides an additional data point. Scholarship decisions are made at the time of admission and are final.

What can I do to ensure I submit a strong application?

At NYU Stern, we are looking for students with both intellectual and interpersonal strengths. We call this IQ+EQ. It underpins how we review applications. We take a holistic approach to admissions, evaluating all of the application components of each applicant. This holistic evaluation covers three major areas: academic profile and readiness, professional achievements and aspirations and alignment with NYU Stern’s core values.

Will future application cycles also be test optional?

At this time, the test optional policy only applies to the 2026-27 application cycle for the Andre Koo Tech and Entrepreneurship MBA program.
